Volunteers help clean up area lakes

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- It was all about keeping Madison area lakes clean today as a group of volunteers took the day to help.

The 27th annual Take a Stake in Our Waters began Thursday. More than 150 volunteers from Lands' End went to work cleaning Lake Farm County Park.

County Executive Joe Parisi says the events bring the community together.

"The answer is in our hands, and the answer is just sustaining this effort over the coming years, and we will make a life long difference," Parisi said.

Thousands of volunteers have removed hundreds of tons of waste from area lakes since the Take a Stake program started in 1988.
