GM recalls 512,000 Camaros

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WKOW) -- GM is announcing another recall due to an ignition switch defect.

Nearly a half million Camaros between the model years of 2010 to 2014 are being recalled. GM says the design of the cars' ignition key and the fob makes it susceptible to being bumped out of the "run" position.

This problem is different than the previous recall involving 2.6 million cars where the switch itself had to be replaced.

Each owner of a recalled Camaro will be issued a new key and fob.

As the auto recalls continue in U.S., this year is on pace to break the record for most recalls for a single year. The auto industry has recalled nearly 25 million vehicles so far and is well on its way to the 30.8 million mark that were recalled in 2004.

According to the Center for Auto Safety, recalls may slow down but expect the total to reach over 35 million by the end of the year.
