Jury picked for sex assault trial of former Badger recruit

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A jury was picked Monday for the sexual assault trial of 18-year old Dominic Cizauskas of Mukwonago, who's accused of victimizing an acquaintance in a UW-Madison dorm during his official, campus visit as a Badger football recruit.

Cizauskas' attorney, Timothy Verhoff requested the woman's recent sexual history with another man - a UW-Madison student and potential boyfriend - be allowed to be part of evidence before the jury. But Reserve Judge Daniel Laroque denied the request. Verhoff maintained the woman concocted the story of being forced into sex by Cizauskas, to explain-away to her potential boyfriend her late night rendezvous with Cizauskas.

Authorities say Cizauskas arrived at the woman's dorm room in December and sexually assaulted her, despite the woman's attempts to dissuade him. Court documents state Cizauskas had ten liquor shots before arriving at the campus dorm, on what was his first night of a hosted, weekend visit to UW as a Badger football recruit. Although the star high school linebacker orally committed to play for Wisconsin, he was omitted from a February announcement of recruits who signed letters of intent.

Attorneys say hundreds of text messages, including texts between Cizauskas and the victim, will be part of the trial.

Opening statements are scheduled for Tuesday.
