Platteville coach brings 150 kids to safety during storms

 PLATTEVILLE (AP) -- The University of Wisconsin - Platteville men's basketball coach is credited with moving over a hundred children out of harm's way as a tornado hit the campus.

Around 150 children between the ages of 8 and 17 were attending a basketball camp.  They were sleeping on the top floor of Rountree Commons residence hall.

Athletic director Mark Molesworth told the Wisconsin State Journal that coach Jeff Gard was at his computer when he heard a noise and saw a tornado approaching early Tuesday.  Gard woke up the children and moved them to a safe location.

The roof of the dorm had extensive damage after the storm.  Other children attending other camps and were taken to safe shelters and then sent home.  The camps have since been canceled.
