DNR wants to scale back wolf hunt

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- The DNR wants to dramatically scale back this years wolf hunt.

The DNR plans to ask its board to limit the kill to a total of 156 wolves.

Agency officials say they want to slow down after hunters killed 257 wolves last year, six more than the limit.

The DNR says they want to gather more information about the impact last years hunt will have on wolf reproduction.

The DNR board will take up the proposal on June 25th.
