Rescued animals get adopted in Racine

Posted: Updated:

RACINE (WKOW) -- For the first time since they were rescued from deplorable conditions inside an animal shelter, those dogs and cats were given new homes.

Three weeks ago these animals were living on concrete floors covered in feces and urine at a shelter near Racine.

Wednesday at the Wisconsin Humane Society in Racine, 40 of the 70 dogs and cats were adopted. Nearly 100 people waited in line to take a pet home, the first person got there at midnight.

"Well I have a love for pugs and she caught me right away with her personality and of course she's cute as well," said Rebecca Beardsley.

In all, 80 animals were rescued. The final ten could be ready for adoption soon.
