MPD sends warning to those posting "selfies"

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police are sending a warning out to young people.  They are urging them to think seriously about disseminating suggestive or naked "selfies" to others.  Police say the photos may end up in the hands of those who could post to a broader audience.

Recently, a concerned citizen walked into the West District Police Department with information involving a particular Facebook site in which local teen girls' pictures are being posted.  The images are of younger women in various stages of undress and in different poses.

A preliminary investigation suggests the girls originally sent the pictures to someone they trusted.  The person who brought this to the attention of police is aware of the identity of one of the girls, and she's devastated.

A detective is currently trying to identify the person posting the images.  If you know of anyone who has been victimized by this crime, or have information on the person posting, please contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
