UPDATE: JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Clayton Courtney, the 28-year-old boyfriend of Britney Cross is under arrest in connection with her death.
The body of 21-year-old Cross was found May 5 on N. Main Street in Janesville. The autopsy revealed her death was homicide, cause by blunt force impact.
At a news conference Thursday, police said Cross was likely killed with a rock found near her body.
Witnesses say Courtney and Cross had been together in Traxler Park, near the dead end of N. Main Street, the afternoon of May 4. Several items belonging to Courtney were found at the crime scene including a baseball cap, shirt and pocket sized Bible he was known to carry.
Blood was found on Courtney's pants during his arrest on an unrelated matter the evening of May 4. The Wisconsin State Crime Lab has now confirmed the DNA in the blood matches Cross'.
Thursday, detectives with the Janesville Police Department went to the Rock County Jail and arrested Courtney for first degree intentional homicide for his involvement in the murder of Cross.
Courtney has been interviewed several times since is original arrest, and authorities have yet to confirm his claim that he "killed three people."
"He told us small snippets of information about his claims to have killed 3 other people and each time he would pass on info, we would investigate as much as we could, any details he would give us and so far we have not been able to find any truth to what he has told us," said Lt. Keith Lawver with the Janesville Police Department. "We're going to keep an open mind and if we get any info we're going to follow up on it."
Authorities have not been able to link Courtney to the death of Mary Coulthard and he has denied any involvement in her death. Evidence related to the 75-year-old woman's death has been sent to the Wisconsin State Crime Lab for analysis.
Courtney is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon, where he is expected to be formally charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide.
