Belleville man charged after leading officials on chase

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Belleville man led both the City of Madison Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol on a chase that ended in Fitchburg Saturday morning.

According to the City of Madison Police Department, the driver, John G. Mosgnaller, 28, was seen traveling at a high rate of speed on the south frontage road by the West Beltline Highway near Seminole Highway at about 10:31 a.m.

A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle continued to travel back onto the eastbound beltline and exited on Rimrock Road. Mosgnaller headed south on Rimrock, and eventually stopped on Highway MM at Lacy Road in Fitchburg.

Officials say Mosgnaller made several excuses about why he didn’t stop, but they weren’t proven to be true. During the traffic stop, Wisconsin State Patrol troopers also arrived and said they were in pursuit of the same vehicle before the Madison police. They had ended their pursuit at County Highway PD and Seminole Highway. Mosgnaller was charged with reckless driving, speeding and two charges of eluding police. The Wisconsin State Patrol also charged him.
