DeForest man cited for OWI for accident involving a semi

MADISON (WKOW) -- A 53-year-old DeForest man has been cited for drunk driving in an accident with a semi last week in the Town of Burke.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office says Richard Berkholtz was driving a minivan when he crashed into the underside of a semi tractor trailer around 9:25 p.m. Thursday.

The semi-truck driver, 55-year-old Daniel Doolittle, of East Leroy, Michigan, was exiting the parking lot of the Pine Cone truck stop and making a left turn onto U.S. Highway 51, when the minivan hit the trailer at a high rate of speed.

Berkholtz remains hospitalized and has been cited for first offense Operating While Intoxicated.
