LA CROSSE (WKOW) -- A stabbing in La Crosse happened after a man broke into an apartment with a gun.  Our affiliate, WXOW, reports it happened on Island Street around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say a 25-year-old man broke into the apartment carrying a gun; the person living there told police he stabbed the intruder with a knife in self defense when they got into a fight.

The intruder was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The victim was injured as well but didn't seek medical treatment.

La Crosse Police Sergeant Randy Rank says the suspect could face charges of burglary, substantial battery, disorderly conduct, and violating probation once he is released from the hospital.
