? MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Water Utility says homeowners from the Madison area have again been contacting the utility with concerns about letters from a company called HomeServe USA.
HomeServe sent official-looking letters to Madison homeowners in March offering insurance for water service lateral lines that run from the water main under a street to a home. The utility told 27 News in March that HomeServe is not affiliated with the City of Madison or with Madison Water Utility, and the letters are simply part of a widespread sales campaign.
The new round of letters appear to be an urgent notice, alerting customers that they have not yet signed up for the insurance program. The utility confirms water service line repairs are the responsibility of the homeowner, but suggests reading the fine print before buying any insurance policy.
You should also check to see if lateral damage is already covered by your current policy.
A company called Service Line Warranties was selected by the City of Madison to sell optional coverage for sewer line service, repair or replacement.
