MADISON (WKOW) -- A new Madison education program gets a huge boost on Thursday.

CUNA Mutual awarded $1.2 million dollars to Forward Madison.

The program aims to train and retain new teachers, developed in the Madison School District and UW School of Education.

The money will be used to mentor new teachers starting this fall.

Steve Goldberg, Executive Director of the CUNA Mutual Foundation says, "It's about this investment and future trajectory of our kids by really investing in their teachers and I think that's gonna be pretty powerful."

The $1.2 million donation will fully fund the program for three years.

It's the largest grant CUNA mutual has ever awarded.
