Extra patrols on the water to deter drinking

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) --  Driving a boat drunk is as much of a crime as driving a car drunk in Wisconsin and law enforcement is going to be cracking down over the next week.

The Coast Guard and DNR will have extra patrols on the lakes and rivers as part of a nationwide effort called Operation Dry Water.

They want to keep things under control as the July 4th holiday approaches.

Authorities say alcohol contributed to 17 % of boating deaths last year.
