CENTER TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- Five people are hurt in a two car accident in Rock County.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office says Sunday evening just before 9:30 p.m., deputies responded to a two vehicle crash with multiple injuries on Highway 14 near North Fox Road in Center Township. Deputies say a 2003 GMC Sonoma was going east when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2008 Dodge Avenger nearly head-on. The Sonoma overturned and came to rest in the middle of the road. The Avenger came to rest in a ditch.

When deputies arrived on scene, the Sonoma was smoking. Deputies used a fire extinguisher to put out the smoke and discovered the driver, Arick A. Vance, 17 of Janesville, was trapped inside. Vance was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center where he was admitted for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Avenger, a 16-year-old female from Evansville, was driving on an instructional permit with her mother. Her sisters, ages 12 and 11 were in the car with her. All occupants of the Avenger were also transported to Mercy Hospital. The 16-year-old driver was admitted and listed in critical but stable condition with internal injuries. Her mother and two sisters have minor injuries. They were expected to be treated and released.

Troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol are reconstructing the crash, which remains under investigation. Highway 14 was closed between North Fox and North Eagle Roads for nearly three hours.

Vance will be cited for Operating Left of Center.
