NEWARK (WKOW) -- A 37-year old Newark man is arrested after a four month investigation into the possible breeding of roosters for fighting.
The Rock County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant at a home in the 8400 block of West Mill Pond Road.
Deputies discovered 61 caged roosters on the property along with items indicative of breeding roosters for the purpose of fighting.
Veterinarians evaluated the roosters, and none were determined to need immediate medical care.
During the search of the property, deputies also discovered a small concealed crawl space in the residence. Inside, deputies found 15 vacuum-sealed packages of processed marijuana totaling 16 pounds.
The homeowner, Jorge A. Marquez was taken into custody and faces one count of possession of THC with intent to deliver, one count of maintaining a drug house and one count of instigating fights between animals.
Marquez is scheduled to appear in court on July 3rd.
