Company fined for missing job creation goal

Posted: Updated:

LA CROSSE (WKOW) -- A development company has agreed to pay $2.75 million in damages for failing to create 2,000 jobs with a three-building complex in La Crosse.

The La Crosse Tribune reports Weber Holdings, after agreeing to pay the damages, was awarded the rights to purchase a city-owned parking lot.  That lot could become the site of a fourth building.

As part of an agreement with the city, the company was to create new jobs by January 1, 2013.  To date, the city says 1400-1800 jobs have been added.

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat says Weber Holdings didn't try to avoid the penalty after missing the deadline, staying true to their word.
