MADISON (WKOW) -- Alliant energy has announced additional air quality improvements are planned for one of Wisconsin’s largest power plants.
Alliant says it has filed, along with Madison Gas & Electric Co. and Wisconsin Public Service Corp., a request with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to install air quality improvement technology at Columbia Energy Center near Portage.
The change is expected to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions at the plant by approximately 50%.
The estimated cost of the project is $150 million, with construction scheduled to begin in 2016 and end in 2018.
Alliant says the project will create hundreds of jobs at the peak of construction.
