Thousands expected for Monona Community Festival fireworks show

Posted: Updated:
MONONA (WKOW) -- Thousands of people are expected to head down to Winnequah Park in Monona for their annual Fourth of July celebration.

The community festival includes live entertainment, a carnival, art fair and plenty of food and beverages. The highlight Friday evening of course is the fireworks.

"We're seeing more and more people come to Monona," Jim Brisbee, the president of Monona Community Festival, said. "Our fireworks are some of the finest in Southern Wisconsin; we'll put up our show against anybody's."

Brisbee says the show will be simulcast to music, and has one of the longest grand finales you'll see in our area.

"We estimate around 40 to 50,000 will be in the park area, generally speaking, to watch the fireworks," Brisbee said.

The fireworks get underway around 9:20 p.m. and will last about 20 to 25 minutes.
