MADISON, WI (WKOW) -- The Madison Capitols hockey team unveiled its jersey for the inaugural season of the new team at the Alliant Energy Center Wednesday.

The jerseys feature the primary logo on the front and two crests on the shoulder pads.

With the release of the jersey, the team also revealed their official colors will be navy, white, and Columbia blue, which serves as an homage to the original USHL team that competed in the city for 11 seasons in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the Madison Capitols AAA youth program.

The Capitols will start the season October 3, 2014 on the road.

General Manager and Head Coach Luke Strand said the jersey reveal is an exciting step in rebranding the new team.

"Obviously you want the brand of your franchise to be prevalent," said Strand, "and I think we've done a good job of finding not just the colors, but symbolizing the city and the state we are in. The Columbia blue has an opportunity to tie in some history with the Madison Capitols. The symbol and the crest, for me, is very sharp. It's something we want to be proud of our fans wearing and that people want to put on their backs and their fronts, as far as the crest goes. So, it's an exciting day to unveil such a sharp jersey."
