Posted: Updated:

LOBELVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- A shooting at a National Guard Armory in Tennessee has left a longtime guardsman dead and a "person of interest" in police custody.

A Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesperson, Josh DeVine, says the shooting happened about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Lobelville, about 75 miles southwest of Nashville.  The identity of the man who was killed has not been released, but DeVine describes him as a sergeant first-class who had been with the guard for 20 years.

DeVine also says "a person of interest" has been taken into custody for questioning, but the man has not been charged.  DeVine says the man was not employed at the armory.

He says at least one other person may have been inside the armory when the shooting happened.
