Standoff at New Berlin pharmacy ends peacefully

Posted: Updated:
NEW BERLIN (WKOW) -- A gunman accused of holding up a New Berlin pharmacy is expected to face felony charges.

Pharmacist Bob Steib says the customer came into his Greenfield Plaza store Wednesday afternoon with a suspicious looking prescription for oxycodone.

Steib refused to fill it and the man returned a short time later armed with a shotgun. Steib tells our affiliate in Milwaukee, WISN-TV,  he filled the prescription and hit the security alarm.

Police locked down the strip mall where the pharmacy is located. Eventually the man gave Steib the gun and the pharmacist left the store. The suspect refused to leave and SWAT officers were called.

After several hours of negotiations, the man surrendered.
