PLATTEVILLE (WKOW) --  Storm-damaged homes and businesses in Platteville continue the long recovery process after last month's storms.

Governor Scott Walker announced Wednesday he's asking for federal funds to help pay for damage from the June 16th tornado.

The Dairy Queen in Platteville was one business hit hard.

We had all of our windows were gone, and blown out, we had a dumpster inside, went right through a window and landed inside the store," Tom Sigwarth, the Platteville Dairy Queen manager, said.

Sigwarth says that although the store is damaged, it is open.

"Being closed doesn't do anybody any good, so we wanted to be open and operational," Sigwarth said. "And some of the major things we can do during our off-season."

UW-Platteville was also hit hard and received a generous donation Thursday from the Chicago Bears. The team is donating $50,000 to the Pioneer Relief Fund for tornado clean-up efforts.

The Bears held their training camp at the university from 1984 to 2001.
