Mining company wants permits renewed

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A company looking to open a mine in northern Wisconsin wants the state to renew its drilling permits.

The Department of Natural Resources granted Gogebic Taconite two exploratory drilling permits last year.

The company wants those renewed. One would authorize drilling six new holes, the other covers the holes that have already been dug.

The holes are about 2 inches in diameter.
