Madison Blaze prepare for playoff opener

Posted: Updated:

Tiffany Lein wasn't sure what to expect this season. The Madison Blaze football franchise is just two years old. The team has a lot of rookies. So, the veteran safety is more than pleased to find her squad hosting their first playoff game.

"You know it's pretty exciting. A lot of girls here have never had the chance to play football. Then, we have some veterans that have been playing for five or 10 years. So, it's really exciting to see the team all come together so quickly."

The all-women's football team will host the Houston Energy Saturday at 5 p.m. at Middleton High School. The winner advances to the Independent Women's Football League championship game in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Blaze head coach Norm Killion says his squad is entering the postseason with confidence.

"Our players come from as far as La Crosse, Milwaukee, Beloit and so forth. There's something about them that brings everything together and they want to participate and they don't want to be ordinary. They want to be out of the ordinary. This team is out of the ordinary."
