SAUK COUNTY (WKOW) – A woman had died after being hit by a train Saturday in Sauk County.

It happened around 4:30 p.m.

In a news release, Sheriff Chip Meister said Sauk County dispatchers received word that a 66-year old woman had been hit by a train at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom.

Meister said a preliminary investigation found the woman, who was a volunteer worker at the museum, was stepping off of a locomotive when she slipped and fell under the train. The train then began to move, running her over.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld until friends and family can be notified.
