Kids' effort to raise money for domestic abuse victims inspires organizers to donate

 GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- After being inspired by two kids' efforts to raise money, the Gold Ribbin' BBQ Fest in Green Bay raised thousands of dollars this weekend to help victims of domestic abuse.

One team from Grand Rapids, Michigan turned the festival's barbeque competition into a family affair to raise money.

Our affiliate, WBAY, says Josh Hance pledged to raise $500 for Golden House, the domestic abuse shelter.  His kids decided to help raise the money and set up a lemonade stand.  At the end of the weekend, the stand only raised $8.

But Hance was still proud of his kids, so he posted it to Facebook and the word of their dedication spread quickly to the other festival competitors.  The competitors began to match it which started adding up quickly.

Hance says 11-year-old Ethan teared up when he heard what the competitors did.  Ethan and his 7-year-old sister, Alex, were able to raise $2,300 for Golden House.

Hance says, "We post things about our kids all the time."  He says he was just bragging about his kids, but he never thought anything like this would happen.
