Nurse's license suspended after alleged theft of drugs from patients

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Members of the state nursing board suspended the nursing license of Stefanie Jones of Cottage Grove, after authorities say the former UW Hospital nurse diverted drugs from patients more than three dozen times.

Department of Safety and Professional Services spokesperson Hannah Zillmer tells 27 News Jones' license will be suspended, while her disciplinary case is pending before the state board.

UW-Madison Police officials say Jones replaced syringes of morphine and other drugs intended for hospital patients with water. Officials say Jones stole the drugs for her own use.

Officials with the Dane County District Attorney's Office say Jones' case remains under review. UW-Madison Police officials recommended 42 felony counts against her.

Jones' employment with UW Hospital ended in April.
