Wisconsin Mom in national ad highlighting dangers of smoking while pregnant

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin mother is appearing in a national ad campaign to highlight the dangers of smoking during pregnancy.

In the ad, Amanda Brenden says she knew the dangers of smoking while pregnant, but didn't think anything bad would happen to her or her baby.

Her daughter ended up being born two months early, weighing only three pounds.

Brenden says she's sharing her story to save other mothers from the guilt she feels everyday, "I did not get to hold her when she was born, at a young age she developed asthma and allergies, she is now seven and takes multiple medications everyday.."

The ad will run nationwide through Labor Day.

The CDC says about 13% of pregnant women in Wisconsin smoke, that's slightly higher than the national average.
