Woman throws pet guinea pigs at officers

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police were called to Pet World on the W. Beltline Highway Saturday after a 26-year-old woman insisted she leave her pet guinea pigs with those already for sale at the store.

The manager explained to the woman if she no longer wanted her pets, she should take them to the Dane County Humane Society.  The woman scoffed and told the manager the store was not his, rather it belonged to the animals.  Officers were called when the manager feared the face-off could evolve.

Officers tried to coax the woman, for quite some time, to at least leave the store so they could talk.  She refused, leading her to toss the box containing her pets.  An employee of Pet World was able to push the box out of the way as the woman kicked and shouted at police.

The guinea pigs were not harmed.  The woman was arrested for disorderly conduct, unlawful trespass and resisting/obstructing.

The pets are temporarily being cared for by the store manager and he says he'll give them to a good home if the woman truly no longer wants them.
