MADISON (WKOW) -- A young boy who died from a gunshot wound last week will be remembered in Madison Thursday.

The Beloit Daily News reports the funeral service for 11-year-old Eric Gutierrez of Sharon, WI is scheduled for Thursday morning at St. Joseph's Church in Madison. Family spokeswoman Susan Garcia says at least five people received the boy's donated organs.

Gutierrez  was shot Wednesday and taken to Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was declared brain dead about 12 hours later. The sheriff's office says investigators interviewed a 13-year-old boy who was a witness and they recovered a handgun and other evidence. They haven't released any other information about the shooting.

Eric's family has established a donation website of www.gofundme.com/baads8 to offset the unexpected costs.
