Woman sentenced in death of her mother

Posted: Updated:
PORTAGE (WKOW) -- A rural Poynette woman has been sentenced to probation in Columbia County court for a crash that killed her mother last December.

Barbara Dorshorst, 47, pleaded no contest to a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.

Prosecutors say Dorshorst's mother and passenger, Caroline Hebel, died as a result of the crash.

At Monday's sentencing hearing, Judge Alan White ordered Dorshorst to serve 25 years probation, including one year in jail, and to attend counseling for 10 years.

The Portage Daily Register reports Dorshorst tearfully apologized at the hearing.

A complaint details how Dorshorst's vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree in the town of Dekorra last December. Deputies say she failed field sobriety tests.
