Hail storm damages Door County crops

DOOR COUNTY (WKOW) -- An early Tuesday morning hail storm causes major damage to a number of Door County crops.

The storm dumped up to four inches of grape sized hail, damaging corn crops and hundreds of apple and cherry trees.

One orchard owner says he lost most of his crop, and he'll be lucky to sell what he has left as bird food and deer feed.

Bob Fellner of Fellner Orchards says, "The initial reaction was that it's just brutal. That total loss and it's just jaw dropping and wonder what you're going to do."

Insurance will help Fellner recover, as for his lost crop, he says all he can do is hope for better results next year.
