Woman shot in Watertown incident; police continue investigation

WATERTOWN (WKOW) – Police are investigating a shooting that resulted in one dead and another wounded early Thursday morning.

According to the Watertown Police Department, police responded to a reported shooting at 1004 N. Second St. at 1:19 a.m. The caller said that one person had been shot and was seriously injured. The shooter had committed suicide.

Upon officials’ arrival, a 45-year-old woman was found outside the front door; she had a gunshot wound to the right hand and right thigh. A 39-year-old man was found inside, dead, with a gunshot wound to the head. The handgun was with the dead male. According to victim, she tried to disarm the suicidal man and was shot during the struggle. The man then shot himself.

Officials took the injured woman to an area hospital. She was later transferred to Aurora Medical by helicopter. Names of the people involved will not be released pending notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation.
