Landlords urged to assist homeless veterans

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Local officials are urging landlords to help them assist homeless veterans.

The City of Madison says 23 new vouchers for HUD Veterans Administration Supported Housing (VASH) are available to house homeless vets in the Madison area.

City officials, along with officials at Middleton veteran's hospital, hope to end veteran homelessness in Madison by the end of 2015.

Mayor Paul Soglin says, "We have to get our veterans, as is the case with all homeless people, into permanent housing, if that is not done and we focus on programs that sustain life on the street, we basically are undermining our best efforts."

110 previously homeless veterans have already been helped by the v-a and community development authority.
