Burke supports sticking with Common Core in WI

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Gov. Scott Walker's Democratic challenger says she doesn't agree with the governor's call for change in education standards.

Earlier this week, Gov. Walker issued a statement asking the state Legislature to pass a bill next year repealing the Common Core educational standards and replace the policy with standards "set by people in Wisconsin."

27 New caught up with gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke at an appearance in Madison Saturday. Burke, a Madison School Board member, says she disagrees with the governor's idea.

"As Governor, I want to prioritize education," Burke says. "Common Core is needed to raise Wisconsin education standards. What you see is Walker putting politics ahead of education."

Common Core is the subject of debate on Capitol City Sunday this weekend. Join host Greg Neumann as he interviews Democratic Assembly candidate Mark Clear and Republican Congressional candidate Joe Leibham. Capitol City Sunday starts at 9 a.m. on WKOW.
