Local mother down with roller derby

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison's Deanna Hoppe considers herself a soccer mom. She is the mother of 8-year old twins, whom she drives around in a gray minivan. Though this mother has tough side. Hoppe's known as "Hoppe Go Lucky" as a player for the Mad Rollin' Dolls, Madison's roller derby team.

"I'm a stay at home mom, I work home, but I have an aggressive edge," Hoppe said.

Hoppe's been participating in roller derby since 2009, which gives her the competitive release she needs away from home.

"Roller derby is the opportunity to go fast on skates. It is really intense and physical. People do get hurt. There's something about waking up the next morning and being sore and you're like yes I just did that."

At 40 years old Hoppe is still skating, which she plans on continuing as long as her body lets her.

"I don't want may age to predict what I do, I want to let my body let me tell me what I can keep doing. And right now it's ready to go a lot more years doing roller derby."
