78th Assembly District forum held

MADISON (WKOW) -- Candidates for a local assembly seat tackled the issues Monday night.

A group representing UW-Madison's faculty senate held a forum of the democratic candidates in the 78th district.

Madison city council members Mark Clear and Lisa Subeck are vying for the seat being vacated by Brett Hulsey.

Both candidates agree the state's school funding formula needs work.

Subeck says, "I would also follow the lead of Tony Evers, our state superintendent, who has put together a fair funding plan to ensure that districts like Madison, that often, with the school funding formula, lose out in the long run, don't continue to lose out."

Clear says, "It's gotten so complicated because it's been tinkered with by so many different legislators that even the experts at the Madison school district don't understand it well enough to be able to predict how it's going to work for them."

The winner of this primary wins the seat since there is no republican candidate running.
