EAU CLAIRE (WKOW) -- University of Wisconsin System president Ray Cross says he wants to grow university-based research and design at UW System institutions.
Cross made the comments Monday at the 7th annual Wisconsin Science and Technology Symposium in Eau Claire.
The UW System says such research has an annual economic impact in Wisconsin of nearly $1.5 billion.
UW System campuses attracted $789 million in federal and private investment in 2013. Those dollars supported full-time jobs for more than 5,500 researchers, lab workers and support staff
Cross said Monday that the UW institutions are committed to helping Wisconsin's business, industries, entrepreneurs and families succeed, and that university-based research is an essential step needed to grow the state's economy and help improve its quality of life.
