MADISON (WKOW) -- The top official at the United Way of Dane County is retiring.

After 33 years at United Way, Leslie Ann Howard will step down as president and CEO on December 31, 2015. Howard says she has been working with the board for a couple years already on her retirement.

"The reason we're announcing now is cause I feel that we need the time, especially because I've been here so long, to really transition with the staff, with the board, with the community." Howard said.

Howard says they'll be holding listening session for the community this fall to get their input. They plan to start the hiring process next year.
