Melvin Gordon ready to be "the man" for Wisconsin

CHICAGO (WKOW) -- Now in his fourth year at Wisconsin, Melvin Gordon finally has his chance to be "the guy."

"It's now my time to make some plays for my team," Gordon said. "I get to lead these guys and I can show I can do it without Montee [Ball] and James [White]."

Gordon spent his first three seasons playing behind Ball and White, who are now both in the NFL. Now in 2014 Gordon will carry the load, which was a major factor in his decision to return for his redshirt junior season.

"He made it very clear when we sat down and it was his decision to say, was coach I'm coming back because I want to be the feature back at the University of Wisconsin on a great football team," Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen said.

Andersen and offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig will look to get Gordon extra touches in the pass game.

"We need to get him more opportunities to catch the ball, I think he caught one ball last year," Andersen said. "He has the ability at any moment to go all the way, anytime he touches the football."
