Badgers evaluate recruiting visit procedures

Posted: Updated:

The recent conviction of a Badger football recruit has forced the program to take a look at their procedures for hosting student-athletes on campus visits. Dominic Cizauskas was arrested for third degree sexual assault after an incident on campus in December. Head coach Gary Andersen admits he recently evaluated the program's recruiting policies.

"How much are we going to be involved? Young men are still going to make decisions. Do we have to put our arm around them 24/7 when they're on campus? It becomes very difficult. It's a tangled web. We've discussed it. I think our procedures are great. They'll continue to be great. A tweak here, a tweak there...potentially yes. It forces you to sit back and look at things."

This year's incoming recruiting class hit some early bumps in the road. One receiver reportedly did not meet academic qualifications for the school. Another receiver left campus during the summer because he was homesick. Monona Grove's Jaden Gault has also stepped away from the program for the time being to deal with personal issues. Andersen plans to use any available scholarships on some walk-ons. However, he wishes many of these situations would have panned out differently.

"All the situations you are discussing there are so very different. Yeah, it's frustrating because I want them all here. I want them to be part of this team, and I want to be a part of their lives. I don't have that opportunity."
