MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- The third annual "Battle of the Badges" kicks off this weekend in Middleton.
On Thursday, members of the Middleton Police and Fire Departments stopped by Wake Up Wisconsin to talk about the event.
“Battle of the Badges” was founded and 2012 and was started as a charity softball gamed between the Middleton Police Department and the Middleton Fire District. It's a family-friendly event that brings the community and their emergency responders together.
The main purpose of the event is to raise awareness and funds to assist families affected by childhood cancer.
This year the money raised will go to help out 4-year-old Blake Rickert who was diagnosed with leukemia in January.
Police Chief Charles Foulke says, "Obviously I'm sure it means a lot to the family but you know it really means a lot to our public safety organizations and it helps bring us closer together."
The police department won the coin flip and will be the home team.
The game gets underway at 11:00 am Saturday at Firefighters Memorial Park.
While the first "Battle of the Badges" 5k run/walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
