Waunakee football ready to bounce back after 5-5 2013 season

WAUNAKEE, Wis. (WKOW) --The Waunakee high school football team has just one more week to prepare for the 2014 season and what they're hoping will be a comeback.

The Warriors had their streak of ten straight conference titles broken last season. Still, they may be poised for a resurgence this year, returning all-conference running back Troy Laufenberg.

The offense has also been bolstered by the addition of 6'2" quarterback Casey Marksberry who moved in from Georgia this summer.

The perennial power is planning to be much better than last year's 5-5 squad.

"Last year gives us motivation to do better this year," said Laufenberg. "It's my senior year, our senior year, so we're looking at it like this is our time and we have to give it our all."

"In a lot of ways the expectations have already been met this off-season," said head coach Pat Rice. "They're committed, and that was our number one thing. So, we're going to go out and work hard and let the chips fall where they may. But this group has some characteristics that are very, very good."
