Filling backpacks for Madison kids in need

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A local group is helping children in need get ready for the new school year.

The 100 Black Men of Madison filled 2,000 backpacks with needed school supplies. It's all part of "Backpacks for Success Week."

"This event is really all about getting kids on the right track, to start school. We want everyone to be on a level playing field as they start school," said Christopher Canty, the event's organizer.

On Saturday, the group will hand out the backpacks at Demetral Park beginning around 10 a.m.

The organization says it has given away more than 24,000 backpacks over the past 15 years.
