Middleton Kids Triathlon raises money for school health programs

Posted: Updated:

MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- The annual Tri 4 Schools kids triathlon is encouraging young people to get out and move.

500 kids ages 3 to 14 bike, run and swim in the Middleton Kids Triathlon every year. Registration fees go back to local schools to help pay for health and wellness programs. In the past four years, Tri 4 Schools has raised more than $100,000, aiming to prevent childhood obesity.

"I think a lot of it is trying to get kids and then their friends active," says Austin Krueger, board chair of Tri 4 Schools. "I think the big thing is if you get one kid to do it and then their friends start to see how much fun they had. Then they'll do it as a group."

The Middleton Kids Triathlon is sponsored by Middleton Sports & Fitness this year.
