Andersen names kicker, makes moves on defensive line

Posted: Updated:
MADISON, WI (WKOW) -- With just a couple days left in fall camp, Badgers head coach Gary Andersen is solidifying his starting lineup.

Thursday Andersen announced freshman Rafael Gaglianone will start at kicker. Andrew Endicott will handle kickoffs and Drew Meyer will be the starting punter, Andersen said.

Andersen's concern halfway through camp over depth at the nose guard position seems to have been alleviated, he expressed. Warren Herring, who was expected to start at nose guard this season after backing up Beau Allen last year, has moved to defensive end, while Konrad Zagzebski has taken over the starting nose guard spot.

Andersen also said redshirt sophomore Arthur Goldberg will backup Zagzebski, while the third string nose guard spot is still up in the air.

"I think it gives us a great opportunity for Warren to be a great play-maker at the defensive end spot in certain situations," said Andersen. "[Zagzebski] moves inside where he's been very comfortable the last two days, and Goldberg backs him up. It's been a good move. That's a package. Is that all the time with Warren, no. He will be an inside tackle a lot of times, but certain packages he will play end and [Zagzebski] will be at the nose guard spot. Both those guys gotta be on the field a lot."
