EAU CLAIRE (WKOW) -- An Eau Claire county man will remain in custody after the state filed a petition to keep him off the streets.
The DOJ filed a petition under the state's sexual predator law earlier this month. Last week, an Eau Claire County judge found probable cause that Steven Trautt is a sexually violent person and the case should head to trial.
The state says Trautt's mental condition could lead him to engage in acts of sexual violence. The petition also says his mental disorders make it likely he will commit acts of sexual violence in the future.
Trautt was first convicted of third degree sexual assault in 2006 and has had many additional charges since then. He was scheduled to be released from prison earlier this month, but will now remain in custody until a jury trial is held.
