MADISON (WKOW) -- An 18-year-old Madison man is facing multiple charges after police say he damaged property and fled from police early Sunday morning.

According to the police report, Javier Gallegos Hernandez hit a parked car, drove over three mailboxes, toppled a fire hydrant, and tore up several lawns in the 600 block of Moorland Road around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Police say they received multiple reports from concerned citizens who heard a loud bang, which police suspect was when the car hit the truck.

Authorities say after damaging the property, Hernandez kept driving, despite sparks flying from the bottom of his car.

Hernandez was eventually arrested after he pulled into a parking ramp near Walmart on Royal Avenue. He was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, hit and run, operating after suspension, and fleeing/eluding an officer.
