UPDATE: One dead after early morning shooting

Posted: Updated:
UPDATE (WKOW) – Madison police say a shooting incident that left one dead on the city's south side early Saturday morning was not a random act.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval wouldn't say directly during a news conference Saturday afternoon if there is a suspect, but said they have their “eyes on someone.” He added that the focus of the investigation is narrow, and that police do not believe the suspect will be at large for long.

Police responded to the 700 block of West Badger Road around 3:23 a.m. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found a 25-year-old man suffering from an apparent gun shot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he died around 5 a.m. The name of the victim has not been released. Koval says there was “quite a crowd” at the scene where the man was shot.

At least one other person was injured during the incident. Koval says the person does not have life-threatening injuries, and that it's not believed to be a gunshot injury.

Police are looking for information from anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the murder. People are asked to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014 with more information.
